Adjunct Associate Professor Peter Aquilina is qualified in both Medicine and Dentistry from the University of Sydney where he graduated with Honours in both degrees. He also has been awarded the degrees of PhD from the University of NSW and Master of Surgery (Head & Neck Surgery) from Sydney University. Adjunct Associate Professor Aquilina is a Visiting Medical Officer (Consultant Surgeon) Nepean Hospital.
Training
Adjunct Associate Professor Aquilina has been performing Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for more than 20 years. After finishing his undergraduate degrees, Dr. Aquilina completed basic surgical training and 4 years of Advanced Surgical Training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. This culminated in the award of Fellowship in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery from the RACDS. He has undertaken additional subspecialty training in the United Kingdom in the areas of Head and Neck Cancer and facial trauma. His interests include minor oral surgery (Wisdom Teeth), dental implants, orthognathic surgery, facial trauma and oral cancer.
Research
Adjunct Associate Professor. Aquilina is actively involved in ongoing research and his PhD was awarded in recognition of his research into the biomechanics of facial fractures.
In addition to his own research, he has been appointed an editor of the prestigious Journal of Craniomaxillofacial Trauma.
Adjunct Associate Professor Aquilina regularly is invited to lecture internationally and actively trains junior doctors in oral & maxillofacial surgery and was until recently the Director of Clinical Training for OMFS in NSW. Currently he trains maxillofacial surgeons, Plastic Surgeons, ENT and Opthalmological surgeons both in Australia and overseas.
Appointments
Adjunct Associate Professor Aquilina is an AMA NSW State councillor and an active member of AOCMF.
Outside of medicine & surgery his interests include bike riding, fishing and sea kayaking.
